Mayor Davids leads handover of upgraded road to community of Venterstad

Walter Sisulu Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Vania Davids led a handover of an upgraded and paved road in Takalani, Venterstad on 02 August 2023.

The paved road stretches 600m and cost over R3 million which was allocated through the MIG funding over the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 financial years.

The Council of Walter Sisulu took a resolution that on a yearly basis some major routes will be upgraded hence the project of upgrading streets from gravel to paving was identified.

As the Municipality is committed to boosting Local Economic Development, the project brought economic opportunities which benefited local people. The project was awarded to a local, female contractor and, skills transfer and employment opportunities were created for local people.

Mayor Davids stressed that the completion of the road was an indicator that the government delivers and that it cares for its own citizens.

“We are here to handover this project because you requested it as the community. We are bringing hope and making a difference to improve service delivery to the community,” said Mayor Davids.

A local community member, Veronica Oliphant, said she is delighted the project is completed because during the rainy season some households could not access their households easy due to the surfacing area of the road.

“We are now able to go to work, school and access other services easier because we can travel faster,” said Oliphant.

The handover was attended by councillors, officials, ward committees and community members.
