Speaking on behalf of Eastern Cape Transport MEC Xolile Nqatha, Joe Gqabi District Municipality Executive Mayor Nomvuyo Mposelwa said:

"A lot of road crashes that have claimed so many of our loved ones and caused us so much pain could have been avoided. Let us also recognise that, our safety is in our hands and let us take charge and refuse to be a part of the gory stats of road accident victims. By doing that, we would have spared our families the heartache and grief."

Walter Sisulu Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr. Vania Davids, said: “We are entering the festive season, we urge all road users including pedestrians to be extra vigilant on the road.”
