WSLM Councillors get trained on oversight, accountability


WSLM COUNCILLORS GET TRAINED ON OVERSIGHT, ACCOUNTABILITY 


Walter Sisulu Local Municipality Councillors attended a workshop on Oversight and Accountability facilitated by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), at the Burgersdorp Council Chambers on 17 August 2023. 


The purpose of the training was to capacitate councillors on ethical leadership as a catalyst for effective oversight and accountability. Mr Sydney Jilaji, from SALGA, said “this training will assist councillors to execute their duties and monitor service delivery in the Municipality, with the ultimate goal to improve audit outcomes.” 


The workshop focused on the following areas:

  • Ethical Leadership as a catalyst for effective oversight and accountability 
  • Roles and responsibilities of internal municipal functionaries 
  • Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful Reduction Strategy 
  • Anti-fraud and Anti-corruption Awareness Campaign 


Speaker of Council, Cllr Nalisile Mathetha said these trainings assist councillors to become better leaders of change in our communities. 


“As we get capacitated as councillors, we need to ensure that we execute our responsibility to change the lives of our community members and improve on service delivery,” said Cllr Mathetha.
